Arizona School's Athletics on Probation After Basketball Game Incident

Coolidge High School's entire athletics department has been placed on 365-day probation by the Arizona Interscholastic Association following allegations of taunting during a boys basketball playoff game.

The penalties include a playoff ban on all teams at the school, which Coolidge is currently appealing. The sanctions stem from incidents during a quarterfinal matchup where Coolidge defeated Chinle 64-53. Video footage was submitted to the AIA, prompting an investigation into the serious allegations.

If upheld, the sanctions would disqualify Coolidge from postseason play in all sports for one year, including forfeiture of their scheduled 3A state semifinal game against Snowflake. Arizona state legislator Myron Tsosie commented on the incident, stating he had seen numerous messages from Chinle families regarding the 'unfortunate events that happened.'
