Football introduces one-minute rule for injured players

Football's law-making body IFAB will introduce a new rule requiring players receiving treatment on the field to wait one minute on the sidelines before returning to play.

The new rule, aimed at combating time-wasting, will be adopted by IFAB this Saturday. Currently, football's rulebook has no specific guidelines about how long treated players must remain off the field, allowing leagues to set their own rules.

Most notably, the Premier League has operated with a 30-second rule since the 2023/24 season. The change comes as many in football have long called for regulations to limit players' ability to feign injuries to delay matches.
