The Warrenton 8th grade girls basketball squad captured the state championship, defeating Madras/Warm Springs 60-52 on Sunday, March 1.

The Warrenton 8th grade girls basketball team won the middle school state tournament in Salem, beating Madras/Warm Springs 60-52 in the championship game. Over the weekend they posted a 5‑of‑6 record, dropping only to Madras on Saturday night before rallying to win the title.

The squad, composed of six 8th graders and four 7th graders, has had six players together for five years. They also defeated Yamhill‑Carlton 52‑40 on Friday and Crescent Valley 45‑17 on Saturday, and beat Banks 40‑28 and Seaside 48‑20 to reach the final.
