Rutgers hires former Drake DL coach Joe Evans

Rutgers has hired Joe Evans, who spent a season as the defensive line coach at Drake, as its new assistant defensive line coach.

The Scarlet Knights announced the addition of Joe Evans to its defensive coaching staff. Evans will work under new defensive line coach Dennis Dottin‑Carter and join fellow former Drake assistants Joe Woodley and Adam Cox.

Evans spent one season at Drake, helping develop linemen who posted double‑digit sack totals. A former Iowa walk‑on, he finished his college career with 135 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and 28 sacks, and briefly joined the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in 2024.
