Richest Sports Owner Buys Stake in Diamondbacks

Walmart heir Rob Walton, the richest owner in major American sports, has quietly owned a 10% stake in the Diamondbacks at a $2 billion valuation for two years.

Denver Broncos owner Rob Walton, worth nearly $146 billion according to Forbes, purchased a minority stake in the Diamondbacks in 2024, with proceeds primarily funding Chase Field renovations. The team had publicly committed $250 million to ballpark improvements, also funded through taxpayer dollars.

Walton serves as a limited partner with no decision-making responsibilities or operational involvement. The move aligns with previous statements from team president Derrick Hall, who had indicated the possibility of bringing in additional investors for ballpark projects and payroll flexibility.
