New York Giants releasing LB Bobby Okereke

The New York Giants are releasing linebacker Bobby Okereke to clear salary cap space and facilitate a defensive overhaul under new leadership.

The move, confirmed by a person familiar with the decision, will save the Giants $9 million against the cap next season. Okereke led the team with 78 tackles and two interceptions in 2023 before becoming a captain.

The release is expected to become official when the new league year begins next week, allowing the Giants to target new talent in free agency and the draft as they retool under coach John Harbaugh.
