New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bat first in the Super 8 match against England at R. Premadasa Stadium. The win would secure New Zealand the second semifinal spot from Group 2.

England, already qualified after beating Sri Lanka and Pakistan, will face New Zealand for a place in the semifinals. The match also determines the second spot from Group 1, with India and the West Indies still in contention.
