Blue Jays' Santander to miss 5-6 months after shoulder surgery

Toronto Blue Jays' Anthony Santander will miss 5-6 months after surgery for a torn labrum, an injury he says returned in January when he resumed hitting.

The Blue Jays slugger revealed Wednesday that his shoulder pain resurfaced in January after he began hitting again, per Sportsnet's Shi Davidi. Despite taking time off to rest, the pain persisted, leading to an MRI that confirmed the torn labrum.

This marks the second consecutive season Santander has battled the same shoulder issue. The 31-year-old missed most of last season, appearing in just 54 regular-season games. He is entering the second year of a five-year, $92.5-million contract with Toronto.
