Jake Canter Wins Olympic Slopestyle Bronze After Near-Death Injury

U.S. snowboarder Jake Canter, who survived a traumatic brain injury at age 13, won Olympic bronze in slopestyle, defying doctors who said he could never snowboard again.

At 13, Jake Canter was kicked in the head on a trampoline, fracturing his skull in four places and leaving him in a coma for four days. Doctors told him he could never snowboard again, but he defied them, relearning to walk, talk and ride after surgery and therapy.

At the Beijing 2022 Games, Canter landed a 1980‑degree spin on his final run to secure bronze in slopestyle, proving his resilience and earning a moment of triumph for himself and his supporters.
