Marquette track & field left the 2026 Big East Indoor Championships with a conference champion!

Danny Olsen rebroke the school record in the 200 meters that he set during Friday’s preliminaries, running the championship race in a time of 21.25 seconds. It is Marquette’s second straight 200m indoor championship, as Aaron Hughes won the race a year ago.

Okay, let’s calm down, social media team, he ran the race 0.04 seconds faster than the day before, I’m not sure that’s “shatters” the record.

That wasn’t Marquette’s only new school record of the day, nor was it Olsen’s only school record. Just as he did with the 200m race, Olsen rebroke his own record in the 400 meters that he set in Friday’s prelims. He finished with a time of 47.14, and ended up with a second place finish and a silver medal.

Now, this, this was a more arguable shattering of a record, as Olsen had a 47.39 on Friday. That’s a full quarter of a second! 0.25!

ANYWAY

Elsewhere in the championships, Russell Czerwinski finished third in the high jump with a personal best 2.01 meters for Marquette’s only other top three finish at the event. That helped the Marquette men finish in fifth place as a team with 77 points, trailing Big East champion UConn and their 194 points. That’s the best finish and highest point total for the Marquette men since the 2023 Big East Indoor meet. On the women’s side, the Golden Eagles recorded 23 points to finish in eighth place, while Connecticut was the victor again with 169 total points.
