Inter Milan 2-0 Genoa – Media Comfortable With Referee Fabbri’s Performance: ‘A Fairly Easy Match’

Referee Michael Fabbri enjoyed a straightforward evening as Inter Milan beat Genoa 2-0 at San Siro, with Gazzetta dello Sport describing it as a fairly easy match to handle and backing both of his key decisions on the night.

The most significant moment came in the 69th minute when Fabbri awarded a penalty to Inter.

Gazzetta were unequivocal in their support of the call, via FCInterNews.

Amorim intercepted the ball with his arm high and away from his body, leaving the referee with little choice.

“An impeccable penalty,” the outlet concluded, no controversy, no debate.

Earlier in the second half, Calhanoglu picked up a yellow card in the 62nd minute after fouling Ekuban as the Genoa forward ran through on goal.

Gazzetta backed that decision too, while also explaining why Fabbri opted against a red card.

The ball was not travelling directly toward goal, and crucially, Carlos Augusto was in a position to recover and make a challenge.

The booking was correct, but the dismissal was not warranted, a fine piece of officiating that required composure and good positioning to judge accurately.

All told, a clean and uncontroversial night for Fabbri, a welcome change after some of the more turbulent refereeing debates that have surrounded Inter’s matches earlier in the season.
