49ers will listen to offers for Mac Jones

Could San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones be on the trading block?

Not if the team has anything to say about it. Although general manager John Lynch has said the team is open to trading Jones, Lynch says the team values Jones and has no intention of trading him…for now.

Many feel that Jones may be the next big success story in the NFL.

NFL Network’s host Rich Eisen expressed that he thinks Jones could be the next Sam Darnold.

“Mac Jones, in my estimation, is the most likely candidate to be the next Sam Darnold of anybody else,” he said. (He was) chosen in the middle of the first round, had a nice first year… second year falls off… he needed to go to ‘Camp [Doug] Pederson’ down in Jacksonville, and now he’s in ‘Camp [Kyle] Shanahan.'”

Jones was once a starter for the New England Patriots as a rookie and led them to the playoffs, the only quarterback of his class that season to do so.

But a change at offensive coordinator in New England all but changed Jones’ career. Soon, he would become a backup in Jacksonville for the Jaguars.

This year, he was Brock Purdy’s backup in San Francisco and led the team to a 5-3 record as a starter when Purdy was injured.

The 49ers wanted to draft Jones out of Alabama, so now that Shanahan has finally gotten his hands on him, he may be ready to be a starter again for a huge price.
