Clemson rolls past Bryant to clinch series, 6th straight win

Clemsonbaseball leaned on timely power, sharp pitching, and another steady showing from the top of the lineup to secure a 5-3 win over Bryant on Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, clinching the weekend series for the Tigers.

Jacob Jarrell delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon, launching his team-leading fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning, while left-hander Michael Sharman continued his strong start to the year with another quality outing. Sharman earned his second win, allowing just one run on two hits with five strikeouts across five efficient innings.

Clemson wasted little time jumping in front. Jarren Purify opened the bottom of the first with a single, and after Nate Savoie reached, both runners pulled off a double steal. Luke Gaffney followed with a single through the right side to bring home two runs and give the Tigers an early 2-0 edge.

Jarrell’s homer in the third pushed the lead to four, and Clemson added another run in the fourth when Ty Dalley lined a two-out single to left to score Purify. Dalley finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, continuing to trend upward at the plate.

Purify once again set the tone at the top of the order, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Gaffney and Jarrell each drove in two runs in the win.

Bryant scratched across a run in the fourth and made things interesting late against reliever Hayden Simmerson, who allowed two runs in the eighth. Freshman Danny Nelson was summoned with a runner on third and delivered in a big spot, recording two outs to strand the tying run before working a clean ninth inning. Nelson earned the first save of his career.

Clemson improved to 6-0 on the season, while Bryant dropped to 1-4.

The two teams meet again on Sunday in the series finale, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. as Clemson looks to complete the sweep.
