Commanders predicted to wreck Bills' pursuit of future Hall of Famer in free agency

One of the top priorities for the Washington Commanders this offseason is adding more help at wide receiver for Jayden Daniels.

Daniels is coming off a down season that saw him struggle with injuries, leading to him appearing in just seven games.

Washington is hoping for a bounce-back year from Daniels, but first the team has to put him in a better position to succeed.

Part of that process is adding more help at wide receiver. Terry McLaurin is the only notable receiver under contract for 2026. Deebo Samuel is a pending free agent and there are nothing but unproven pass-catchers behind McLaurin.

In order to address their need, Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr predicts Washington will sign future Hall of Famer and Tampa Bay Buccaneers pending free-agent wideout, Mike Evans.

In their pursuit of Evans, Orr also predicts that Washington will face competition from the Buffalo Bills, but he believes the Commanders will win out.

"Despite interest from the Bills, Washington can commit more with breathing room under the salary cap. The push to get Jayden Daniels to a Super Bowl before his rookie contract tolls is real, and Evans is one of the most quarterback-friendly receivers in the NFL," Orr wrote.

This is not at all an outlandish prediction from Orr.

Both teams need help at wide receiver and Evans could be on both teams' radars,  as he'll be the most established playmaker available at the position.

It wasn't even guaranteed that Evans would play another season, but his agent recently revealed Evans would suit up for 2026.

Also included in that announcement was Evans' desire to test the free-agent market, which means he's seriously considering leaving Tampa Bay.

Evans might not be the same player he once was, but he's still got some gas left in the tank and can help wide receiver-needy teams like Washington and Buffalo.

If he had to choose between the two, we believe Evans would rather go to Buffalo, where he'll have a better chance to win a Super Bowl.

But money talks and the Commanders have a lot more of it than the Bills, with Washington sporting $73.6 million in cap space this offseason.

And, lest we forget, the Commanders are one season removed from a trip to the conference title game, so that could help sway Evans, also.
