Paul Coffey returns to Oilers as assistant coach

The Edmonton Oilers have announced that Paul Coffey is returning to their coaching staff as an assistant coach.

The Oilers announced the move on Wednesday, with Coffey expected to rejoin the team on Friday. Head coach Kris Knoblauch stated that Coffey's expertise will benefit the staff as they look to build momentum for a deep playoff run.

Coffey previously served as a skills coach and special adviser to ownership before becoming an assistant coach in 2023. During his previous stint, the Oilers' defensive corps ranked fifth in the league in goals allowed per game (2.78).
