Rassie praises Springboks’ ‘grind’ after Argentina hit out
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus was happy with his team’s ability to grind out a win in testing conditions after they were made to work incredibly hard to edge Argentina 17-10 in a low scoring one-off Test in Buenos Aires on Saturday night.
It was a scrappy game, with the Boks largely struggling on attack as their aerial game faltered and they made a slew of handling errors throughout the match, but their defence was rock solid and that in the end won them the match. beltedkingfisher.blog
Just three tries in total were scored over the 80 minutes, one to each team in the first half with them locked at 10-all at the break, before eighthman Cameron Hanekom dotted down the lone score in the second period off the back of a powerful scrum.
Argentina can be proud of pushing the top team in the world all the way, especially being without a host of regular stars, while they also handed out four debuts on the day.
‘It was going to be disjointed’
The Boks though have plenty to work on ahead of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series, but they will be happy to have seen a large number of players return from injury, and can take winning momentum into the first Test at Ellis Park later this month.
“Our focus was to beat Argentina, because we know how tough it is coming here and our track record here has never been great. Only keeping them to one try was a positive,” said Erasmus after the match.
“I always thought it was going to be disjointed, with several guys having not played in a long time and leaving 15 players back in South Africa. So it wasn’t perfect, but it was what we expected. We are happiest with the win and the grind.
“I thought our defence was good, our discipline was relatively good, and the biggest thing is our attack which we need to sort out. But we brought a lot of guys back and that will improve as they settle in.”
As always Erasmus praised the passion and fight shown by the Argentinean players, and how their incredible fans and the intimidating atmosphere brought a World Cup playoff game intensity to the contest that he was happy to overcome.
“They are a very proud rugby nation, and I always say they’ve got that same fight in them that we have back home. They’re passionate, and they never stop,” explained Erasmus.
“Even if we drew, we would have learned a lot about grinding out a win when the crowd is going crazy. The crowd was fantastic the way they encouraged Argentina in the last few minutes.
“So for us to stay calm and get over the line was big. We didn’t play well, but I thought we handled the pressure very well.”

Aucun cas de maladie à virus Ebola n’a été détecté à bord, a indiqué dimanche 9 août à RFI le ministre congolais de la Santé, Roger Kamba. Les investigations ont également établi que l’embarcation ne venait pas de Kisangani, contrairement à l’information initialement transmise par le système de surveillance sanitaire. L’épisode conduit désormais les autorités à maintenir un dispositif permanent de contrôle des bateaux en amont de la capitale.
Aphelele Fassi: Giliomee and Siyaya have ‘massive future ahead of them’
Junior Springbok and SA A sensations Luan Giliomee and Zekhethelo Siyaya have been “phenomenal” in the way they have played, and they have incredible futures ahead of them if they keep it up, said Springbok fullback Aphelele Fassi.
The teenage utility backs enjoyed a prodigious debut season in the Sharks senior side after Fassi and their fellow Junior Bok teammate Jaco Williams suffered injuries.
Nineteen-year-old Giliomee, who was once used by the Blitzboks, and Siyaya, 18, lit up the Sharks’ backline. They each scored a try despite only playing two and four games, respectively, in the United Rugby Championship.

They were both selected to play for SA A in the young side’s 40-0 whitewash of Zimbabwe in June.
Giliomee played well there and moved from fullback to flyhalf after Yaqeen Ahmed’s red card.
Siyaya, at wing, almost scored three times before going off for a concussion.
Springbok assistant coach Mzwandile Stick heaped praise on the players for their performances.
Unfortunately, Siyaya’s injury saw him miss the U20 World Championship in Georgia, though Giliomee was instrumental in helping South Africa successfully defend the title.
While injured, Siyaya had time to tell The Citizen about his dreams of playing for the Springboks, and how consistently turning in performances at the Sharks would help him get there.
Giliomee has since made his Currie Cup debut for the Durban union, and with Fassi moving to Brave Lupus Tokyo, he, Siyaya and Williams are set to drive the Sharks’ success in the URC after another disappointing season last year.
Williams already earned a debut appearance for the Springboks, scoring a try against Wales in the Nations Championship. One feels it is only a matter of time before Giliomee and Siyaya get called up, too.
Fassi: Two youngsters could adapt to top level
“I think the two have a massive future ahead of them,” said Fassi, who by comparison played his 18th Test against Argentina in Buenos Aires on Saturday, which the Springboks won 17-10.
“To be honest, I probably didn’t play the role that I wanted to [in mentoring them]. I was focusing on my injury.
“But while doing that, I had a few chats and time with them. Whatever questions they had, I answered. But I think the way that they’re playing is phenomenal. I think you saw in the SAA game that they played.”
He said Giliomee was excellent at the U20 World Championships, and Siyaya has been a major attacking threat since his Sharks debut.
“I think they learn fast and could adapt and execute the way that they want to at the top level.”

Arsenal doit désormais rapidement se tourner vers la suite de sa préparation. Les hommes de Mikel Arteta affronteront Côme mercredi, avant de disputer le Community Shield contre Manchester City dimanche prochain.
