O'Neill induced into managers hall of fame

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill will be inducted into the League Managers Association Hall of Fame 1000 Club when he takes charge of Thursday night's game against Stuttgart.

The Europa League play-off will mark O'Neill 1000th professional match as a manager, and his 301st at Celtic.

The 73-year-old joins a group of 40 managers who have also hit the 1000 game milestone including the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Brian Clough, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger.

"Martin's life in football has been characterised by some phenomenal achievements and by such longevity, as evidenced by reaching this remarkable milestone," Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson said.

"Almost one third of these matches have been achieved with Celtic and everyone at the club is so grateful for the wonderful contribution Martin has made and continues to make to Celtic.

"He has given us and the wider football world so much over so many years and we send Martin our sincere congratulations on reaching this real landmark achievement."
