6 G/A in 6 games puts “grateful” £19m man back on Chelsea fans’ radar and back on road to Premier League

We never thought we’d be at this stage – an in depth interview with Omari Kellyman on the Athletic. The fact that we are is a testament to how good his form has been. Effectively a forgotten man after injuries took him off the radar, and referred to just as a “PSR bargaining chip”, most Chelsea fans had long stopped paying attention to the attacker.

But five goals and an assist in his last 6 games which have fired Cardiff into the League One promotion race have marked his return to the public consciousness, and his interview with Simon Johnson is really interesting.

“This is my first real season in men’s football where I am playing every week,” the 20 year old said.

“I have learnt a lot about myself and the game as well, the demands of it. I am grateful to be here and show Chelsea what I can do. It has kind of been my first real opportunity to do that. I obviously came new to Chelsea [in 2024] and for a long time after that, no one really saw anything from me.”

Doing well in League One is probably to be expected for a player we paid £19m for back in the summer of 2024. But there’s no need to sneer – he’s found his feet and his fitness, and can use this as a springboard to get to the Championship and ultimately the Premier League.

In other news…

Axel Disasi’s move to West Ham has been a huge success, and his captain came out to praise him for his performances this week.

One attacker who Chelsea did  sign was Kendry Paez, way back in 2023. He’s not had a good time of it since, and there has today been more bad news about his progress.
