Following a crash-filled race at Echo Park Speedway in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday night, Sam Mayer contributed one more crash post-race.

Mayer drove up to congratulate his Haas Factory teammate Sheldon Creed on his first win in NASCAR’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, a win five years in the making.

When Mayer disconnected from his teammate and dove down to the entrance of pit row, he miscalculated and ended up driving into the infield grass. He entered too fast for the rain-soaked grass, digging the front of his car into the ground and then catching air.

Sam Mayer was involved in an incident with 42 laps to go while racing Josh Williams for ninth place. Williams retired from the race with damage, and Mayer drove away from the incident for a seventh-place finish.

Creed didn’t know about the incident until it was shared with him by NASCAR media members in his post-race pre-conference. Upon review of the video, Creed found the strange incident funny.

"What's tough is that the cup car doesn't have splitters anymore, so they can rip through the grass at like 180 (MPH)," Creed told the media. "He probably thought he was going slow enough so it wouldn't grab, but [our cars] almost touch the ground, so he wasn't expecting that. That's pretty funny, though, I'm not going to lie."
