The Minnesota Twins have sustained a major blow to their pitching staff.
Starter Pablo López is set to undergo elbow surgery and will be out for the season, the Twins announced on Friday.
López appeared in just 14 games last season but was important when healthy, posting a 2.74 ERA and 73 strikeouts over 75.2 innings.
Set to head into his fourth season with the Twins, López had been a constant presence in the team’s rotation before battling injury last season.
Over nine seasons, also including time with the Miami Marlins, López holds a career 59-53 record with a 3.81 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 172 appearances.
