Canada’s Marie-Philip Poulin unsure on Olympic future

Team Canada may be without its captain come the next Olympic Games.

Marie-Philip Poulin, who just competed in her fifth Olympic gold medal game, is unsure if she’ll be playing alongside her teammates in the French Alps come 2030.

“I’ll be in the present and go from there,” Poulin told CBC Olympics’ Claire Hanna on Thursday following Canada’s heartbreaking defeat to the United States.

Poulin is one of the most decorated Olympic hockey players, sitting alongside fellow Canadian legend Hayley Wickenheiser with five total medals.

The 34-year-old Poulin has won three golds and two silvers — her latest coming on Thursday.

But the medals aren’t the only depiction of her success. She is the all-time women’s Olympic goals leader, while her 27 Olympic hockey game appearances are more than any other Canadian in history.

Poulin, nicknamed “Captain Clutch” for her handful of important goals on the Olympic stage, has served as the team’s captain since the 2015 World Championship.
